I just wanted to share this article that talks a little about the dance aerobics classes we started a few years ago and the impact they have had, specifically on the Latino community. Who would have thought that what Shawn and I did at the South Boulder Rec Center as an experiment (partly for our own entertainment and partly to get people exercising) would lead to ongoing programs that are really having a huge impact on peoples' health? These classes have led to many Latinas, who were previously doing zero execrise, joining the YMCA and going 5-6 times a week now!
These dance classes have become a big part of my life (I'm still teaching 2-3 times a week), and I love that others have stepped up and become teachers and leaders, like Martha, Blanca, Nick, Xochitl and Raul. Thanks to everyone who has participated or supported in some way! A healthier community is a happier community :)
