Here are a few organizations that I chose to financially support (not huge amounts) in 2011.
Children's Future International - a great nonprofit in Cambodia co-founded by a former Intercambio volunteer and friend of mine
Reading Village - a great org in Guatemala to promote reading, also started by a former volunteer and friend
CIRC - an amazing immigrant rights group
PCAP - the group I volunteered with in Michigan to facilitate creative writing workshops for prisoners
One Morgan County - An immigrant integration group in Eastern CO whose director helped us get the immigrant guide translated into Somali, Burmese and Karen because those populations are there.
INVST - A program focused on social change at CU that has sent Intercambio some incredible interns
Taking the time to give just a little to amazing groups like this helps me remember that despite the frustrating political climate there are some beautiful initiatives happening everywhere, and there are many more that I'm unable to support. I'm blessed to be a part of one of them very intimately.
